Sensei Brezhnev has compiled some fun and interesting things about the different holidays celebrated around the world. Enjoy. December 19. Sensei Gary Goltz visited DYNAMO (and BHHS Wrestling Team) practice. He is founder and Sensei of Goltz Judo Club in Claremont. The Upland resident has a 7th Degree Black Belt in Judo and serves as Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Judo Association, which has graciously hosted many of the Judo tournaments DYNAMO has entered. We thank Sensei Goltz for continuing support for DYNAMO Club. Coach Mead, Sensei Goltz and Sensei Brezhnev on Dec. 19. December 9. Russian army wrestling celebrates its 70th anniversary. The sport which combines different ethnic styles of wrestling, and takes its name from the Russian words for 'Unarmed Self-Defense' began in the Soviet Union in 1938. The Asian SAMBO Federation (ASF) establishes ties with M-1 Global Mixed Martial Arts League. Last month in St. Petersburg ASF President Mr Fazliddin Pulatov and ASF Vice President Mr. Saeed Ahmedjanov concluded preliminary rounds of talks with Mr. Vadim Finkelstein, President of M1- Global Mixed Martial Arts, wherein the possibilities of long term mutual collaboration between ASF and M-I Global were cordially explored. December 8. Team DYNAMO and Beverly Hills High School (the Normans) wrestling team kicked off the 2008-2009 season with a solid third-place for the Varsity, and a second-place for the Junior Varsity, at the prestigious Chaminade Duals Folkstyle Tournament. Congratulations to all winners, participants and their families, coaches, team administrators and Normans-Dynamo supporters. Team DYNAMO and members of Beverly Hills High School Wrestling team. Results: (V: Varsity, JV: Junior Varsity) First-place Dynamo's finishers: At 5-0 on the day with four pins, Romeo Soofiani at 285 lbs weight class (Varsity). At 5-0 with three pins:Nadav Laemmle at 103 lbs (V); At 5-0 with one pin: Murtaza Abbas at 189 lbs (V) At 4-1 Matthew Flagel at 171 lbs (Varsity) At 4-1 with one pin: Elliot Pourtavosi at 140 lbs (JV); Second-place Dynamo's finishers: Tal Dahan at 145 lbs (V) and Josh Rezvani at 152 (JV) Third and fourth place Dynamo's finishers: Kayvon Pedram (V), Armand Farrokh (V), Kevin Youssian (V) and Daniel Molayem (V) Dec. 1. A reminder about upcoming Judo Winter National Championship on Dec. 5-7th, in La Verne, CA. This is a biggest Judo tournament in CA, and a national one too, which means it will give participants a major boost in experience and possibly ranking.
